Yuval PICK joined Batsheva Dance Company in 1991. With this company directed by Ohad Naharin, he danced may roles in pieces by William Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj, Hervé Robbe, Lionel Hoche, Vera Mantero. In 1996 he collaborated with Tero Saarinen and his company and won the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris (contemporary dance) that same year at the Paris international dance competition. In 1999 he joined the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Lyon where he danced Solo for two and Carmen by Mats Ek. In 2001 he toured with Russell Maliphant's company in Europe and the United States. Yuval Pick established his own company The Guests in October 2001 and created several pieces including the Right of Spring for the CNSMD of Lyon and Ballet de Lorrraine. “ My need for dance is a need for expression first and foremost. It reflects the necessity of tackling human nature through the use of the body, it is adjascent to my path as a man, as a dancer, as a performer and as a choreographer. The choreographic research I am initiating deals with what the body is capable of: not necessarily the dancing body but rather that part of oneself that contributes in defining ourselves.” |
