Thierry MALANDAIN

Thierry Malandain danced with the Paris Opera Ballet (Violette Verdy), with the Ballet du Rhin (Jean Sarelli) and with the Ballet Théâtre Français de Nancy (Jean-Albert Cartier), Hélène Trailine).
In 1984, he presents his first choreography at the Volinine competition and wins the highest distinction. His next two pieces also win first prise at the Nyon competion in 1984 and 85. From then on he retires form dancing and founds the Compagnie Temps Présent in 1986. During the next six years, the company works in Elancourt (near Paris). With his ten dancers, Thierry Malandain develops an active policy around creating new works and promoting dance whilst accepting commisions from other french or international companies. He receives many awards throughout this period: Laureate of the Fondation de la Vocation, the Fondation de France, the Fondation Oulmont, "New Talent" prize from the SACD

In 1992 , invited by Jean-Louis Pichon, the Compagnie Temps Présent is taken in residence at the Maison de la Culture et de la Communication in Saint-Etienne (France) becoming hence "Associate Company" at the Esplanade Saint-Etienne Opera. The company is under contract to produce two choreographic programmes, to participate in an opera production and to encourage dance audiences each season. During this period Thierry malandain colaborates with many stage directors and is regularly invited by other companies.

In 1998, he is awarded the post of diirector of the newly formed Centre Chorégraphique National - Ballet Biarritz by the the Ministry of Culture.
